What Is VelaShape®?

VelaShape® is an endermologie device that uses massage, suction and heat to reduce cellulite, excess fat and improve skin laxity. VelaShape® utilizes a combination of infrared heat, bi-polar radio frequency and vacuum rollers to deliver a controlled medical ‘trauma’ to the multiple layers of skin where collagen fibres and adipose tissues are located (3-15mm deep).

As with most body contouring procedures, VelaShape® is not intended for general weight loss. Rather it’s designed for body contouring of stubborn areas of fat and cellulite that don’t respond to diet or exercise. To achieve visible results 4-6 sessions are recommended followed by a monthly maintenance treatment. Because of poor clinical outcomes and discomfort during treatment, various versions of the machine have been introduced over the years to improve the patient experience. The most recent model is the VelaShape® III.

Velashape Drawbacks and Limitations

The biggest complaint about Velashape® is the lack of appreciable or permanent results. Multiple sessions are needed to produce noticeable reductions in cellulite or circumference. Despite the claims made in advertisements and on product websites about the improved comfort of the new device, the reality and experience for most patients has been to the contrary. The cellulite smoothing and slimming results are only temporary, requiring regular follow up treatments otherwise the area reverts back to its previous condition. Furthermore, redness and intense heat associated with the treatment causes discomfort for many patients, often leading to reduced settings used which results in less impactful results.

Velashape vs. CoolSculpting®: Freezing Your Fat Offers an Advantage

CoolSculpting® came to the scene in 2008 and quickly became the go-to treatment for body sculpting and contouring. Its success can be attributed to being able to deliver reliable, permanent fat reduction in a few sessions with minimal downtime and discomfort. In fact, the procedure is so comfortable that patients often fall asleep during treatment. Based on numerous clinical trials and thousands of satisfied patients, CoolSculpting® faithfully delivers on its promise of 20-25% reduction of fat in the targeted area with each session.

How does CoolSculpting® work? Fat cells are destroyed through a process called cryolipolysis. During the procedure, applicators of various shapes and sizes are attached to targeted body zones such as the love handles, thighs, arms, chin or stomach using a light suction. Cooling is then applied, which freezes and kills the fat. Once each applicator is removed, the frozen fat is massaged to break down the now dead fat cells and assist the body in its safe and gradual elimination. CoolSculpting® results can be observed after 4-8 weeks but continue to improve for up to 12-16 weeks.

The cost of your CoolSculpting® session will depend on how many areas are being treated and the number of sessions necessary to achieve your desired level of fat reduction. In most cases 2-3 sessions may be needed for optimum results. During your personalized consultation, a clinician will access each area to determine what applicators are necessary to achieve your desired body contouring. Your CoolSculpting® costs per session will be explained to you in detail, along with the different payment options.
