Individuals suffering from excess skin in the neck area will benefit from a neck lift. Many refer to this unattractive, excess skin in the neck and jowl area as turkey wattle. The bad news is that this excess skin cannot be removed by diet and exercise. Individuals who wish to remedy this issue have to undergo a neck lift which can be performed by itself or done in conjunction with a chin augmentation, liposuction, and a face-lift. Following a neck lift, patients can expect firmer, tighter, and younger-looking skin plus more well-defined contours in the lower face. When done properly by an experienced and professional doctor, neck lift results can extend towards the usual longevity of a face-lift which is eight to ten years.*
Dr. Mosser will recommend the surgery that you will need based on three factors: 1) your face’s distinct characteristics, 2) the specific issues that you want to address, and 3) the realistic goals you’ve set with him during the consultation. At our practice, we specifically use a technique referred to as the isolated neck lift to help tighten excess skin the neck and re-position the underlying tissues. By making two tiny incisions behind the ears and another one beneath the chin, Dr. Mosser trims the extra skin and consequently lifts the remaining skin in place. Dr. Mosser may have to remove weakened muscles when needed as this significantly contributes to the turkey wattle look. Afterwards, the remaining skin is stitched together just behind the ears to create a firmer, tighter appearance in the neck.* Generally, the procedure takes around two to three hours to complete.
