San Francisco Belotero

Belotero treatment is commonly used for skin texture, pigment and wrinkles. Learn the advantages and disadvantages from San Francisco’s finest skin experts at Azalasf.com

What Is Belotero®?

As we age, the natural hyaluronic (HA) acid in our body starts to decline leading to skin aging, wrinkles and volume loss. Dermal fillers can restore volume and a radiant glow to our complexion because HA has the ability to absorb up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. Popular with millions of people nationwide, HA products can help regain the youthful contours lost with age and take years off our appearance.

The Belotero® line of dermal fillers first received FDA approval in 2011 for smoothing wrinkles and adding volume. It can be injected into the skin using a needle or cannula (blunt tip needle). Belotero® is placed more superficially than other fillers and isn’t designed for extensive tissue lifting or support. The Belotero® family of hyaluronic acid products includes Belotero® Balance, Belotero® Intense, Belotero® Volume and Belotero® Hydro. As with most dermal fillers on the market the number of syringes and cost depends on the area being treated and the level of improvement desired.

Belotero Drawbacks and Limitations

Belotero’s biggest drawback is its low density, requiring more syringes to achieve the same volume correction as with a higher density HA. More syringes unfortunately means a higher cost for the patient. Furthermore, the filler’s superficial placement, especially around the eye area, increases the chance of the Tindall effect – a bluish tinge under the skin which is related to the way filler particles scatter light. Although the makers of Belotero claim this is much less likely to happen thanks to the product’s less viscous composition, the risk of Tindall effect still exists and largely depends on the skill and technique of the physician.

Juvederm and Restylane Treatment of Choice Over Belotero

After having evaluated the performance of Belotero, as well as several other dermal filler brands, Dr. Mosser and his team of experienced clinicians have confidently decided to work with Juvederm® and Restylane® products exclusively. These two products embody the excellence and quality they need to produce outstanding results.

Juvederm® has recently added a new line of high-performance, long-lasting products using their patented Vycross® technology. These are Juvederm® Voluma, Juvederm® Vollure and Juvederm® Volbella. Selective cross-linking of hyaluronic acid molecules gives the Vycross® products a higher density, allowing them to be injected deeper into the skin. This technique is more effective when treating deeper and more severe wrinkles and folds or when lifting is desired. Juvederm® Voluma, for example, can elevate the lateral cheeks and restore volume to the mid-face better than its Belotero counterpart, Intense.

Equally versatile and effective is the Restylane® range of dermal fillers, including Restylane® Defyne, Restylane® Silk and Restylane® Lyft. These fillers provide additional options where a variety of texture and tissue adhesion differences are required. With Juvederm® and Restylane® as the fillers of choice here at Azala Medical Aesthetics you can be confident that all your skin rejuvenation needs will be handled by highly professional and experienced injectors.
